SATURDAY’S Eagle Invitational at East Jackson won’t be the first meet for many of the teams attending.
But it could be considered something of a grand opening for the track season in the county.
Twelve schools — many of them local — will compete Saturday in the fifth annual event at East Jackson.
“Yeah, it will kind of give us an idea of where everybody is at,” first-year East Jackson coach Tomy Sitton said. “He did a time trial (Wednesday) in the 100 (meters) and 300 (meters) and the mile. It will give us a better idea of where some of the kids are.”
In addition to the host Eagles, nearby schools Jackson County, Jefferson, Commerce and Banks County will compete. The field also includes Athens Christian (girls only), Dawson County, Oglethorpe County, Rabun County, Habersham Central, Loganville and Parkview.
“We’ll have 12 schools and Parkview, obviously, will be one of the big teams coming in,” Sitton said. “We’re excited to put on a good-size meet.”
East Jackson will also participate in other large meets, traveling to Mill Creek March 6 and Grayson March 10.
“We’re going to try to have a combination of some smaller meets to allow all the kids to participate and then have a couple, maybe three to four meets, where we take our better kids to,” Sitton said.
