EJCHS wrestlers advance

BOTH East Jackson wrestlers who qualified for sectionals have made it to the sport’s biggest stage in the state.

Eagle heavyweight Jeff Chandler finished third at the weekend sectionals at Dublin and 113-lb. wrestler Garrett Lott took seventh as both move on to the state meet at Gwinnett Arena this week.

Wrestling action starts Thursday at 5 p.m.

Chandler closed the sectionals with three consecutive wins. He started the tournament with a win, but lost in the second round to a wrestler from East Laurens. Chandler then rebounded with two victories and then avenged his lone loss — defeating the East Laurens wrestler — to finish third. Chandler was behind by a point with 25 seconds to go in that match when he took his opponent down and put him on his back for the win.

Lott went 3-2 in the tournament, winning his final match to finish seventh place.
