The Mill Creek High School cross country teams competed Saturday at the Gwinnett County Championships. The girls’ varsity placed sixth and the boys’ varsity finished in eighth place.
Brittany Westmoreland led the Lady Hawks setting a new school record with her time of 19:39.63. Alicia Connolly finished second for Mill Creek with a time of 20:03.10.
Megan Steinocher (20:50.14), Megan Steele (21:26.76) and Hanna Hill (21.51.11) also scored for the Lady Hawks.
Collins Hill won the girls’ division with a team score of 18:30.64. Mill Creek’s team time was 20:46.15.
In the boys’ division, Austin Boetje (17:02) was the top runner for the Hawks. Tim Heffner (17:19) finished second for Mill Creek and Andres Tostes (17:22) had the third best time for the team. Nick Bava (17:31) and Shane Huckeba (17:43) also scored for the Hawks.
Mill Creek varsity boys’ coach Andy Christie said he was thrilled with his team’s performance at the meet.
“We had a lot of personal best times, but, more importantly, we really battled people and raced for every single point,” he said. “We still need to catch North Gwinnett and one other team if we want to get out of the region, but we are definitely getting better each week, so I'm extremely proud of the guys."
The boys’ varsity finished with a team time of 17:24.30. Brookwood High School won Saturday’s meet with a team time of 16:15.80.
Junior Varsity Results
Mill Creek’s junior varsity teams also competed at Saturday’s championships.
The junior varsity girls placed third with a team time of 22:26.62. Scoring for the Lady Hawks were Kellie Taborsak (22:02.87), Kelsey Kennedy (22:17.89), Sarah Barnhart (22:42.36), Kara Kennedy (23:00.09) and Kathryn Gauthreaux (23:33.11).
The junior varsity boys finished in fourth place. Justin Davis led the Hawks with his team of 17:56. Glen Feller (18:14), Tajay Hoppines (18:16), Josh Bridgewater (18:33) and Mitch Flammang (18:44) also scored for Mill Creek.

The junior varsity will compete against Grayson at Little Mulberry Park on Thursday. The Varsity will travel to Spartanburg next weekend for the Cavalier Classic.
