Skylar Evanson scored 26 points in her final game as a Lady Dragon, but it wasn’t enough to carry Jefferson (12-14) past Banks County in the first round of the 8-AA tournament Tuesday.
The Lady Dragons lost 52-45, ending their season at 12-14.
Jefferson led 22-15 in the second quarter but Banks County closed the first half with a 12-3 run en route to the win.
“To me, that was the run that really took our momentum away,” Jefferson coach Jason Gibson said.
Jefferson trailed 39-38 after three quarters, but Banks County hit two three-pointers to stretch its lead out. The Lady Dragons had chances down 45-40 in the fourth quarter to cut into the lead but couldn’t capitalize.
Evanson hit six three-pointers on the night.
“Skylar played great,” Gibson said. “She played her heart out.”
Jefferson finished the year two games below .500 but Gibson felt his team overcame a lot.
“I thought we had a good season considering all the things we went through,” Gibson said, pointing out that his team dealt with multiple injuries this year and played a schedule filled with several larger-classification teams.
The second consecutive year this team was eliminated by Banks County. A real shame for these kids. I cant think of another Jefferson based team that has been eliminated by a Banks County squad, not in Rec, Middle School or High School. Not in Tennis, Track, Football, or One Act Play. The rest of us are held accountable for our job performance. Why isnt Paul Gibson?
Its bad to be a loser, but to be a sore loser is even worse. Banks Co. puts you out 2 years in a row probably means Banks had the better team. Boys should have been put out by Banks also. Had them on the ropes the whole game.
