BRIDGES: Many parts go into team win

It also takes a solid effort for all four quarters of the game. Thirty two minutes of sound play are a must. WBHS got that as well.

In addition, it takes each player doing his job the right way, without being selfish. You can check that off as well for coach David Sokol’s team.

One such player who seems to always have an unselfish attitude is B.J. Worley. The Bulldogg player was not in the starting lineup Friday night, but his effort and performance helped propel the Bulldoggs to their win.

Worley entered the game with 2:08 left in the first quarter. He would remain on the court for the remainder of the first half.

Upon taking the floor, Worley lines up in his defensive position as WBHS was playing man-to-man defense. When teammate Chandon Sullivan gets set for a free throw attempt, Worley looks over to his coach to get the call on what defense the team will be in.

Back on the defensive end of the court, Worley makes a Madison County player adjust his three-point attempt just enough so that it ends up off the mark.

With 45 seconds left in the first quarter, Worley scores his first basket of the contest.

The second quarter begins and Worley remains on the floor. His assist to Toddric Barnes with 1:40 before halftime helps give WBHS a 25-17 lead.

Throughout his basketball career, Worley has been known for making the little plays which help his team be successful. Last Friday in a key subregion game with Madison County, Worley simply responded by doing what he always does.

He wasn’t the leading scorer. He didn’t deliver a dunk which brought the crowd to its feet. Yet, without Worley’s performance, the Bulldoggs do not win the game Friday. WBHS remained in the race for the top spot in the subregion with the win.

The win helped WBHS improve to 10-14 overall, but more imporantly, to 4-5 in its half of the subregion race.

Going into this week, the Bulldoggs, along with Apalachee and Madison County, were just one game first. Flowery Branch, Clarke Central and Habersham Central were all one game ahead of the second group.

Kendall Isler did his usual damage Friday with 20 points. He is now averaging more than 27 points during his three most recent outings.

Trent Burton had eight rebounds and his solid defensive play was also a key to the win.

It takes efforts of the entire team to be successful. Sokol’s Bulldoggs got that last week. From Isler to Burton to Worley and beyond, the effort was there which all coaches hope to see each time out.
