JACKSON County ended its regular-season tournament schedule with an exclamation point.
The Panthers — who begin the traditional post season this weekend at the area tournament — boasted seven individual places at this past weekend’s Bowdown Invitational to finish third overall, just five points out of first-place.
Zach Moore, Bryan Burnette and Daivon Ledford all placed first in their respective weight classes. Tre Velasquez and Michael Shekey both took second. J.T. Wood and Anthony Ledford rounded out the scoring with third and fifth-place finishes respectively.
“I had to pull one wrestler out of the tournament due to an injury, but besides that we placed every wrestler in the top six that we took to the tournament,” coach Jason Powers said. “We had a lot of very hard fought matches and that’s what we needed going into the area tournament.”
Powers said he has “no doubt” that his squad is ready for the Friday-Saturday area tournament at Elbert County.
“We have made a lot of improvements over the last few weeks, and we are not done yet,” Powers said. “A lot of teams focus on peaking at the right time. I do not believe we have peaked yet as we are continually getting better every practice and every competition. I expect us to do very well at area this weekend.”
