The Madison County girls’ sixth grade NEGFL (North East Georgia Feeder League) team is off to an undefeated start this season.
Coached by Heather Tyner and Terry Tyner, the girls are 4–0 and the only undefeated team in the league out of six teams in the Elite Division. The NEGFL is run by Coach Michael Palmer and is set up to prepare girls for middle school basketball.
The Madison County Feeder league sixth grade players are: Aaliyah Hall, Adryanna Maxwell, Alexis Gantt, McKenzie Tyner and Taylor Haley. The fifth grade players are: Cloie Dickerson, Jordan Bailey and Tykeria Barnett. There is one fourth grader, Maggie Campbell.
The NEGFL consists of two leagues, the Elite Division and the Premier Division. The Elite Division consists of: Madison County, North Oconee — Red, Oconee County, PACS, Jefferson, ACS – Cartey, and Athens Academy – McCleary. The Premier Division consists of: Athens Academy – Bateman, PACS – Henderson, PACS – Evans, North Oconee – Gold, ACS and St. Joe’s.
Madison County started off the season before Christmas with a 32 – 11 win over North Oconee – Red, 36 – 11 win over Oconee, 36 – 25 win over PACS (seventh grade) and a 36 – 12 win over Jefferson. The remainder of their season schedule is below and games are played at PACS.
•Saturday, Jan. 14 – 9 a.m. vs. Athens Academy – McCleary
•Monday, Jan. 16 – *All-Star Games and Awards Night*
•Saturday, Jan. 21 – 9 a.m. vs. ACS – Cartey
•Saturday, Jan. 28 – first round of playoffs – TBA
“The All-Star Games, Competitions and Awards ceremony is going to be a very special night for the girls,” organizers said.
The All-Star players chosen to represent Madison County in the Elite All-Star game at 7:45 p.m. are McKenzie Tyner, Aaliyah Hall and Adryanna Maxwell. Participants in the Competitions at 7 p.m. are: Aaliyah Hall – Free Throws, Adryanna Maxwell – three-point shot, McKenzie Tyner teamed with MCHS player Molly Glaze – Hot Shot competition and Taylor Haley – Knock out.
The night festivities start at 5 p.m. with the seventh grade all-star game and the Premier league All-star game is at 6 p.m.
