Wildcats win at buzzer against WBHS

Blakely’s 25 points Friday night were a result of various factors.

“He had a high shooting percentage partly because we were able to move the basketball and get it to him in the paint,” Morris said. “He wasn’t getting it one or two steps off the blocks. That helped increase his percentage.”

After WBHS missed a one-and-one opportunity, AHS was able to cash when Blakley tipped in the game-winner at the buzzer. Blakely started the game strong as well scoring 12 of his team’s 20 first-half points.

The Bulldoggs had taken a 46-42 lead after three-pointers from Toddric Barnes and B.J. Worley. Brandon Grullon and Jermaine Smith helped tie the score for the Wildcats by making their free throw attempts.

The win improved AHS to 4-8 overall but more importantly 1-0 in subregion play. The Wildcats will battle for control of the subregion this season along with WBHS, Flowery Branch, Madison County, Habersham Central and Clarke Central.

Rakim Peters had a big night as well for the Wildcats as he finished with 12 points. Kendall Isler scored a team-high 15 points for the Bulldoggs.

AHS will host Madison County Friday while WBHS will host Clarke Central. The Bulldoggs enter the week 5-10 overall and 0-1 in the subregion.
