Lady Cats cruise past Monroe Area

The Lady Wildcats quickly jumped out to a 20-5 lead after the first quarter and took a 31-19 lead into halftime. An 8-1 run to start the second half sealed the non-region victory.

Nine AHS players scored points in the win. Tia Carter finished with seven points while Aliyah Taylor and Jasmin Bell both scored five.

The one-two punch of Sanford and Shelton was simply too much for Monroe Area, however.

“I thought Kiarra had a sound game,” Parks said. “When she wants to, she can score a lot of points as well. Saboyce is a very unselfish player and she had another quality game. I liked the way our players encourage each other.”

The Lady Wildcats will host Winder-Barrow Friday as the subregion slate begins.

“I think we are ready to play subregion games at this point,” Parks said. “We played three good teams over Christmas and it was good to be back in our gym tonight. I think being back at home gave us some energy.”

After the win Tuesday, Parks said there wasn’t much discussion about WBHS among the players.

“I’m sure we’ll be cranked up for them as the game gets closer,” the coach said. “It’s always a fun game when we compete against Winder-Barrow.”
