NOT MISSING a beat following an 11-day hiatus, the Jefferson boys’ basketball team (6-4, 2-0) secured its third-straight victory with a 56-34 holiday tournament win over Westminster Tuesday in Atlanta.
The Dragons had a huge night defensively, holding the host Wildcats to just 19 points in the first three quarters.
“I thought we played really well,” coach Bolling DuBose said. “Especially on the defensive end and coming off a break.”
Austin Thompson led a trio of double-figure scorers with 17 points. Byrant Shirreffs added 12 and Will Puckett finished with 11.
Jefferson led 25-13 at the half but broke the game open in third quarter by scoring the first nine points of the period en route to taking a 43-19 lead heading into the fourth.
The Dragons return to action at Westminster today (Wednesday) against Alpharetta at 7:30 p.m. in the semifinals.
“We’ll have to play even better than we did today,” DuBose said of that matchup.
If Jefferson wins, it will play at 7:30 p.m. Thursday for the championship. Should the Dragons lose, they’ll play Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
