THE EAST Jackson wrestling team went 1-3 at Saturday’s duals tournament at Madison County, beating a “house team” comprising assorted wrestlers while losing to Madison County, Chestatee and Apalachee.
Individuals with standout days were Jeff Chandler, who went 4-0 in the heavyweight division, and Garrett Lott, who went 3-1 in the 106-lb. class.
Coach Randy Hill said the team continues to take steps forward.
“Guys just getting better,” Hill said. “There were some tough teams. We’re just improving a little bit at a time.”
East Jackson dropped a pair of matches Tuesday prior to the tournament, losing to Jackson County and Madison County.
The Eagles will have a few days off for Christmas and return to action for the Dec. 29-30 Amicalola Classic. East Jackson wrestles in the 8-AA duals immediately after that on Jan. 6-7 in Jefferson.
“Hopefully guys will continue to get better and hopefully it (the Amicalola Classic) will help prepare them for the area duals,” Hill said.
Of course, the biggest tournament of the year for the team is the Feb. 3-4 8-AA traditional tournament.
“Our main goal is to get ready for the traditional area tournament at the end of the year.”
