Four Madison County wrestlers placed in the 12-team Morgan County Invitational this past weekend.
Steven Resby finished second in the 182-lb. weight class. Max Nash was third in the 132-lb. division. Andrew McCannon took third in the 195-lb. class. And Tanner Gordon finished fourth in the 120-lb. division.
“It was a lot of tough competition, the first real competition we have faced all year,” said Red Raider coach Ritchie Houston.
Madison County finished tenth in the tournament. Banks County won the event, with Morgan County and Oconee County taking second and third.
Houston said cancellations by some teams in the tournament allowed Madison County to take some JV wrestlers to Morgan County.
“The younger kids did well,” said Houston. “It was a good experience for them. They got to see the difference between the junior varsity level and the high end varsity level.”
Madison County’s trip to Morgan County followed home matches last week in the Barn in Danielsville. Madison County downed East Jackson 50-24 Tuesday, but fell to Hart County 36-28.
Ereck Larkins, 152 lbs., won two matches in overtime, while Max Nash and Tanner Gordon won both of their matches to maintain their undefeated records at the time.
