Madison County had hoped to pull even with Apalachee today in the subregion race, but will instead try to make up ground.
The Raiders (12-5, 4-2) dropped another game behind the first-place Wildcats heading into today’s (Thursday’s) highly-anticipated subregion rematch after falling 4-3 at home Tuesday to Habersham Central.
The best scenario the team can now hope for is to finish in a three-way tie for first in the subregion. But Madison County — which has been hit hard with injuries, especially within its pitching staff — would need some help along the way for that to happen.
“It’s a lot of things we can’t control,” coach Doug Kesler said. “All we can control is going out and trying to beat Apalachee.”
The Raiders trailed Habersham Central 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh before scoring twice and putting two runners on with two outs.
But Taylor Morgan’s deep fly ball was run down in the outfield to end the rally as Madison County lost for the second time in divisional play.
