Jackson County outlasted Class AAA Stephens County 59-58 Tuesday on the road for victory no. 1.
The Lady Panthers (1-6) had three scorers — Savannah Roncadori (14 points), Macey Latty (12 points) and Mason Garland (10 points) — reach double figures as Jackson County broke a six-game losing streak. Victoria Fontana had five steals. The Lady Panthers’ 59 points were a season-high.
“Outstanding team effort and win tonight (Tuesday),” coach John Hawley said. “The girls overcame a lot of adversity and made several big plays down the stretch.”
Jackson County opens subregion play Friday on the road at North Oconee.
In Tuesday’s win, Jackson County rallied from a first-half deficit and led 28-25 going into the locker room. The Lady Panthers fell behind 46-43 after three quarters before over taking Stephens County in the fourth.
Before that, Jackson County’s losing streak reached six games on Friday when it lost to Banks County, 61-29. Danni Cunningham led the Lady Panthers with 14 points, while Fontana added 13 in the loss to the Region 8-AA North foe.
Jackson County faces a rematch with Banks County Saturday at home. The Lady Panthers continue subregion play Tuesday against Hart County.
