Jackson County slugger Madison Whitmire was named Region 8-AA softball Player of the Year following a prolific offensive season.
Whitmire, a junior, helped lead Jackson County to a 25-8 record in Panther coach Chessie Laird’s first season.
Whitmire was joined on the all-region team by Jackson County teammates Jessica Baker (infield), Mason Garland (infield) and Haley Shinall (pitcher) — all second-team selections.
“Madison is a workhorse who dedicates herself to softball year-round,” Laird said. “Her stats speak volumes to her drive and determination to be the best player she can be for herself as well as our team. Our coaching staff is very proud of Madison for being selected as 8-AA Player of the Year and to the 8-AA first-team all-region. We are also very proud of Jessica Baker, Mason Garland and Haley Shinall for being selected to the 8-AA second team all-region team. I believe all of our girls give it their all each day competing to make themselves better and to have four players selected to an All-Region team is a true testament to their hard work.”
Elsewhere, Jefferson’s Jordyn Whitfield (infield) earned first-team honors, while Lindsey Miles (outfield) was a second-team selection.
Brittany Nolan (infield) was a first team selection for East Jackson.
