It’s almost another Friday night and everyone in Northeast Georgia knows what that means: it is time for some football.
Jackson County gets back on the field this week after an off week to face Prince Avenue.
The Panthers have been a team that I think has surprised a lot of people in only two games. Honestly I don’t think anyone expected the Panthers to win against Sonoraville, but the fight Jackson County put up and to only lose by two points shows that coach Kirk has turned the ship around for JCCHS’s football program. For the first time in a long time they are heading in the right direction.
As an added bonus, Jackson County is in the running to have WSB-TV live at the game this Friday. When I checked the totals on Tuesday, the Panthers were leading with 44 percent of the votes. The WSB-TV website has taken down the totals at this point, but are still accepting votes.
After Prince Avenue this week, the Panthers play their first region game of 2008 against Morgan County next Friday. I will go ahead and say that I think Jackson County will give the Bulldogs a run for their money.
This Friday night is also a huge event for Jefferson, as they host Oglethorpe for the 2008 homecoming game.
I remember the homecoming games when I was in school and the games sometimes take a backseat to all the other celebrations. Coach Navas has said that the Dragons are going to have to remain focused as they take on their third region opponent.
Speaking of region opponents, last week’s win over Fannin County has definitely proved Jefferson is a force to be reckoned with in their new region. Like most Jefferson programs, the Dragons are ready after hard practices and a staff that keeps the kids on track.
If I had to offer a prediction, I think Jefferson has a very real shot at winning region this year.
