Facing a team that walloped them 49-0 last year, the Jackson County Panthers were denied a big road upset Friday in Hartwell, losing 22-13 to Hart County, despite a 236-yard rushing night from Dustin Scott.
A win in this game would have given the Panthers a no. 4 seed in the consolation portion of this week's Region 8-AA playoffs.
Scott scored both of the Panthers touchdowns during a career night for the junior running back.
Jackson County (2-7, 1-5) led 7-0 after a quarter and only trailed 8-7 at the half. The game stayed tight as the Panthers trailed 15-13 heading into the fourth.
The Panthers are now the no. 5 seed out of Region 8-AA South based on tiebreakers and will play the no. 5 seed on the north side of the subregion on the road next Friday.
