Cope, Lady Bulldoggs go for three in a row

“Flowery Branch is not going to give it to us,” Lofton said. “We will have to be on our guard and know who is in the crowd around us.”

Along with Cope, Caitlin Connell, Whitley Kennedy, Anna Dean, Amber Duffey, Darcy Potts and Isabel Martin will lead the Lady Bulldoggs.

“This will be a high pressure race,” Lofton said. “The question will be can we focus on what we need to do and block out the nerves. We have two freshmen in the top seven so that may be a factor. Their minds can go a thousand different directions.”

Lofton and coach Amanda Partee-Manders were making final preparations for region this week.

For the WBHS boys, Josiah Bennett has a chance at winning the region. The Bulldoggs were in the top three team-wise in 2010 as Flowery Branch took first followed by a close grouping of Loganville, WBHS and Habersham Central. Skyler Lowe, Chris Cope, William Wright, Shane Davis, Timmy Villameter and Alex Martinez will lead the WBHS boys.

“We have a team that can secure a spot at state,” Lofton said. “Flowery Branch is the leader right now and Habersham is going to push us.”
Region competition is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Saturday.
