The Commerce Tiger cross country team started its season at an open meet at East Jackson last week.
The boys finished last of the six teams that took part, while the girls did not score in their five-team meet.
Commerce was scheduled to travel to Rabun Gap Tuesday. Results were unavailable at press time. Check www.mainstreetnewssports.com for updates throughout the week.
Two individuals did run personal best times in their races.
For the boys, Ethan Thomas ran a 22:24.
“(That) was much better than any race he ran last year,” said Commerce coach Mark Hale.
Hannah Duckett ran a 25:34, which Hale said was the best girls’ time the team has had in several years. Duckett is in her first year running cross country.
Other times recorded by the Tigers included Juan Toribio with a 24:01, Zach Scannell with a 26:09, Johnathan Leffew with a 28:45 and Zan Peek with a 28:51.
Up next for the Tigers is a meet on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at Banks County.
