Elbert County cruised to a 45-14 win over East Jackson Friday, setting up a battle of unbeatens next week when the Blue Devils face North Oconee for the subregion title.
Elbert County (8-0, 5-0) scored four touchdowns in the first quarter (missing three of four PATs) to take a 25-0 lead and never looked back. The Blue Devils added another touchdown in the second quarter to lead 32-0 at halftime and eventually enjoyed a 45-0 edge in the third quarter.
Elbert County’s Tyshon Dye finished with 149 yards rushing on just eight carries with three rushing touchdowns. That’s not including a 65-yard punt return for a score and a 25-yard touchdown catch as Dye totaled five touchdowns on the night.
East Jackson (3-5, 1-4) got on the board with 1:57 left in the third when Tyler Collins scored from two yards out on a quarterback keeper.
After an Elbert County three-and-out, C.J. Allen ran 62 yards on the first play to make it 45-14. Allen finished with 137 yards on 21 carries as he now has 825 yards on the season in his bid to become a 1,000-yard back.
Tyler Collins added 49 yards on the ground.
East Jackson finished with 221 yards rushing on the night but didn’t complete a pass in the ball game.
Elbert County racked up 449 total yards.
