WITH its five scorers posting either seasonal or personal bests, the East Jackson boys’ cross country team earned a sixth-place finish at last Tuesday’s White County Mountain Invitational at Unicoi State Park.
East Jackson averaged a season-best 18:23 and enjoyed the best showing of any Class AA school.
Cale Pirtle led the Eagles with a season best 17:29 to finish 18th overall. Stuart Robinette also broke 18 minutes with a personal-record (PR) 17:53 to finish 23rd. Vladik Staples (36th) turned in a sub 19-minute time with an 18:22, his personal-best, as did Michael Adair (62nd), whose 18:57 was his PR for the season. Rounding out the scoring was Tyler Cone (69th) with a PR of 19:06. Running but not scoring were Noah Hulett (85th, 19:34) and Cory McClung (90th, 19:37) who turned in a PR time.
East Jackson’s girls finished 10th out of 16 teams, led by Kristin Whitlock (28th overall), whose 22:36 ranked no. 5 on the school’s all-time list. Courtney McDowell (45th, 23:23), Robin Adair (59th, 24:13), McKenzie Parr (76th, 25:21) and Cora McDowell (101st, 29:07) rounded out the scoring for the Lady Eagles.
East Jackson’s junior varsity boys took seventh out of 14 schools. Runners included Visay Hue (24th, 19:59), Miguel Partida (26th, 20:06), Cody McQuillen (40th, 20:41), Bobby Halkes (42nd, 20:45), Noe Solis (74th, 21:42), Connor Koslosky (104th, 22:26), Adam Francis (112th, 23:14), Daniel Reeves (120th, 23:21) and Ryan Sannying (154th, 27:02).
