Jefferson tuned-up for a shown-down with first-place Elbert County with a 48-13 waltz over Oglethorpe County Friday in Lexington.
The Dragons (5-1, 2-1) face Elbert County (6-0, 3-0) — which is currently tied with North Oconee atop the Region 8-AA standings — next week at Memorial Stadium. The Blue Devils rolled to a 29-7 win over Hart County Friday.
Jefferson, coming off a 38-28 loss to North Oconee last week, jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead over Oglethorpe County with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Bryant Shirreffs to McKay Dickens and never looked back.
Kamen Johnson scored from a yard out in the third to give the Dragons a 21-0 lead with 4:58 in the second quarter. Jefferson then took a 28-0 lead at the half when Shirreffs hit Will Puckett for an 11-yard scoring strike.
Carson Newman enjoyed the defensive game of a life time, racking up 21 tackles — including eight tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries.
The Dragons, which have scored 40 or more points four times this year, found the end zone three more times in the second half in the runaway victory.
The victory gave Jefferson coach T. McFerrin his 300th coaching win in Georgia. His other 23 came in Tennessee.
