Volleyball: East Jackson bows out of area tourney

EAST JACKSON lost to Morgan County in the play-in game at the Area 8-AA/A volleyball tournament to wrap up an 8-20 campaign.
The Eagles fell 25-16, 25-23 in the elimination match.

East Jackson had 15 kills in the loss.

“We did very well when we were able to set up our offense, but that just didn’t happen enough,” coach Tim Thomas said. “All our hitters hit the ball well when we could get it to them. I think we had more kills in that match than in any we’ve played all season. Defense looked pretty decent too, but serving and receiving just wasn’t there tonight (Tuesday).”

Leaders on the night were Rebekah Poponi (eight kills, one assist, six digs), Haley Simmons (five kills, two aces), Madison Mealor (five kills, one assist), Jamie Beauchamp (two kills, two assists) and Rosie Melendez (11 assists) and Jill Edmondson (two assists).
