Madison County muscled the ball into the end zone late in the second quarter to grab some momentum going into halftime. The Red Raiders trailed just 14-9 at intermission.

But the bright spots ended there, as Apalachee downed Madison County 45-9, scoring 31 unanswered points in the second half to grab its first win of the year, while the visiting Red Raiders dropped to 1-4.

Apalachee’s standout running back Stanley Williams scored four touchdowns for the Wildcats on runs of 9, 41 and 28 yards, along with a 59-yard punt return for a score.

Apalachee also scored on runs of 20 and 3 yards and tacked on two field goals.

Madison County struck first Friday on a 26-yard field goal by Joey Sandres. The Red Raiders’ lone touchdown of the night came on a one-yard run by Trae Burton on fourth and goal with 1:46 left in the first half. The PAT was no good.

The Red Raiders are off next week.
