SOFTBALL •Jefferson 5, Oglethorpe Co. 1: Lindsey Miles homered and went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead Jefferson (12-17, 9-3) to a 5-1 victory over Oglethorpe County in the Dragons' regular season finale.
Other leading hitters were Paige Pate (2-for-3, RBI), Raegen Sandy (2-for-4), Jordyn Whitfield (1-for-4, RBI), Megan Faulkner (1-for-4), Savannah Snapp (1-for-4) and Ashley Boyd (1-for-4).
Snapp earned the win, pitching seven innings, allowing five hits, no walks and an earned run while striking out three.
Jefferson finished as the no. 3 seed in Region 8-AA South. The Dragons' next game is Monday, Oct. 3 against Banks County at Dawson County in the first round of the Region 8-AA playoffs.
VOLLEYBALL •Jefferson beats Jackson Co., Athens Christian: Jefferson (29-7, 6-0) picked up two wins on the final day of the regular season, beating rival Jackson County (25-8, 25-21) and Athens Christian (25-11, 25-12).
Jefferson's 6-0 record in 8-AA South marks its third consecutive undefeated season in sub-area play. This was also senior night for the Dragons as Jefferson honored a group of 12th graders that have won over 100 matches in their careers.
"This group of seniors have left their mark on the Jefferson Volleyball program," coach Mike Paul said. "They hold nearly every record that we keep track of."
Leaders for the night were Cassie Metcalf (four aces, six kills), Amanda Daniel (six aces, five kills, 20 assists) Taylor Cramsey (one ace, nine kills), Eden Starnes (three aces, eight kills), Sarah Wood (one ace, two kills), Savanna Holland (five aces, six kills) and Amanda Burgamy (four aces).
