So far this season has been full of surprises. Left and right, everywhere you turn you are being amazed.
Teams that should be 0-3 are 3-0. Teams that should be leading their divisions are stuck on the back burner.
I decided to make a list of my top 5 surprises of the season so far.
The list goes as follows:
Number 5: The Atlanta Falcons.
I simply am astonished that the Falcons are 1-2. They should have beaten the Bears and they should have beaten the Bucs this past week. But somehow they beat the Eagles?
The Falcons have a terrible offensive line and Matt Ryan is getting destroyed game in and game out.
Plus, they can’t win road games. They are incredible at home, but on the road they simply can’t get it done.
I think they will turn it around, but it is still surprising to see them at 1-2.
Number 4: The Detroit Lions. Honestly, this isn’t a surprise to me since I had the Lions having a great year, but I thought I would throw them into the list for the sake of everyone that actually is surprised.
Although, I’m not sure if I would have had them winning their first three games and tied with the Packers in the division.
Nonetheless, the Lions’ perfect start is a big shocker. I just hope they can keep up the winning throughout the season.
They are one of the most fun teams to watch in the entire league.
Number 3: The Oakland Raiders.
Excuse me? Raiders are 2-1? And they would have been 3-0 had it not been for an incredible comeback by the Bills in week 2.
This is madness.
How are teams like the Raiders picking up wins? The Raiders simply man-handled the New York Jets in week 3.
I mean, I’m not that big on the Jets this year either. However, they are still the defending AFC runner ups, still a very good team.
The Raiders scored with ease against the Jets who are touted as one of the best defensive teams in the league.
It will be particularly interesting to see how the Raiders pair up against their divisional rivals, and my Super Bowl champions, the San Diego Chargers.
Number 2: The NFC East.
Okay, I know a lot of people say that this is the toughest division in football every year, I get that.
But does that mean that the division needs to be absolutely out of control?
After two weeks the Washington Redskins were 2-0 and going for 3-0 against the Dallas Cowboys after this column was written. The Cowboys themselves have been certainly questionable, choking in week 1 against the Jets but somehow beating the 49ers.
The Giants lost in week 1 to the Redskins, but then go to Philadelphia and knock off the Eagles Sunday.
And the Eagles, oh my the Eagles. Nice win in week 1 over the St. Louis Rams. But then you drop one against the Falcons and then flat out lay an egg at home against the Giants? Dream team isn’t doing so hot right now.
Finally, number 1: The Buffalo Bills.
The Bills went out and destroyed the defending AFC West champion Chiefs in week 1, then had a miraculous comeback against the Raiders in week 2.
And to top it off they somehow came back against the New England Patriots and beat the Pats for the first time in 15 attempts, now that is surprising.
I don’t think the Bills will win the AFC East, but still, beating the Patriots is nothing short of impressive.
The Bills are by far the most surprising thing so far this season and they are a lot of fun to watch.
Let’s hope the rest of the season will also have plenty of surprises in it.
