Wildcats feel they are close to victory

Changing offenses in the middle of a game is rare at the high school level but Madison County has been known to do it.

“If they are doing something that is not working, they will try something else,” Davis said. “Most teams don’t work on that many things. However, Madison County is different. They are flexible in their attack.”

Apalachee defensive coordinator Matt Sorrells is making sure all bases are covered for this week.

“Coach Owens does a good job of putting his kids in positions to be successful,” Sorrells said. “What that means for us is having to prepare for many different things. We will have to make the most out of our practice time this week and try to show our kids as much of this as possible.”

Defensively, this week’s opponent for AHS will use primarily a four-man front with some three-man looks on occasion.

“Of course, you never really know what they are going to try but we’ve used mainly a 4-4, a 4-3 and some three-man fronts,” Davis said.

After playing well last week against Heritage, AHS hopes this week will be the Friday night when victory is on the Wildcats’ side.

“A win does take care of a lot,” Davis said. “I’ve always said I’d rather win ugly than lose pretty any day. We need to cut down on our turnovers, cut down on our offensive penalties, tackle better and line up correctly on defense. These are things that are correctable. When you manage to win then you don’t panic about these things. When you win the scoreboard makes you feel better. We still have some problems we have to fix. We have been in position to win a couple of our games.”
