THE JEFFERSON softball team held off a seventh-inning North Oconee rally Tuesday to beat the no. 9 Titans on the road and sweep the season series with the highly-rated foe.
Coming off a loss to East Jackson, the Dragons (11-17, 8-3) led 6-3 in the bottom of the seventh, but North Oconee plated two, two-out runs before Jefferson recorded the final out.
The fifth inning proved to be the pivotal one in this contest.
With Jefferson trailing 3-1, the Dragons posted five runs to take a three-run lead. Raegen Sandy and Jordyn Whitfield both had RBI singles during the inning, Ashley Boyd drove home a run with a sac fly and pitcher Savannah Snapp delivered a big two-out double to bring home two more scores.
Snapp picked up the win, throwing a complete game while allowing eight hits, five runs (two earned) and one walk. She struck out one batter.
Offensive leaders for the Dragons were Sandy (3-for-4, RBI), Whitfield (1-for-3, RBI), Lindsey Miles (1-for-4, RBI) and Snapp (2-for-3, two RBIs).
