EAST JACKSON’S cross country teams both turned in first-place finishes at Saturday’s Best in Class meet at Oglethorpe County.
The boys’ team won thanks to a cluster of top-10 finishers turning in sub-19 minute times — Vladik Staples (fourth, 18:27), Stuart Robinett (fifth, 18:32) and Cale Pirtle (sixth, 18:45). Rounding out the scoring were Noah Heuitt (11th, 19:17) and Tyler Cone (13th, 19:32).
The Eagles were able to best region foes Hart County (second), Oglethorpe County (fourth), Elbert County (fifth) and Jackson County (sixth) in the seven-team boys’ meet.
The Lady Eagles were paced by Kristen Whitlock (fifth, 22:59) and Courtney McDowell (sixth, 24:07). Robin Adair (24:37) also managed a top-10 finish, placing 10th.
Also scoring for East Jackson were McKenzie Parr (13th, 25:21) and Caroline Flynn (16th, 26:00).
With their first-place finish, the Lady Eagles were able to beat fellow 8-AA foe and rival Jackson County, which finished second in the four-team girls’ meet.
