Jefferson plays their third game against Eagles Landing Christian at 3 p.m. Friday, May 16.
The bats were fired up and so was the crowd as the Jefferson Dragons faced Trion in the first round of the state playoffs Friday afternoon, May 9.
The doubleheader win against the visiting 6-A Trion Bulldogs allowed Jefferson High School to advance to the second round of the playoffs.
The Dragons will be facing Eagles Landing Christian Academy on Friday to decide who moves on to the quarterfinals at 3 p.m., here in Jefferson.
The Dragons hosted the Trion Bulldogs in a doubleheader shutout, Friday, May 9.
GAME ONE
Jefferson left little room for the visiting Bulldogs, jumping out to an eight run lead by the second inning. The game was called at five innings, Jefferson, 10 to Trion, 0.
Jake Fields hit a homerun in the first that brought in Chris Beck. In the second inning, Lucas Redd got things started getting a base hit followed by Anthony Dowker scoring Redd, Chase Harris scoring Dowker, and Kyle Carter. Blaine Skaggs emptied the bases with a homerun. Beck ended the second inning streak with his own homerun.
In the third, Redd was brought in for another run by Carter. Trion managed to prolong the game to five innings after a scoreless fourth. Redd hit a homerun for the game winning run.
GAME TWO
Jefferson secured moving on to the second round of playoffs, after a three inning, slaughter of Trion. The Dragons ran away with the win, 18-0.
On the mound, in the second game, Beck pitched to only nine batters and threw four strikeouts.
At the plate, Jefferson scored four runs in the first inning; Fields with a homerun scored Beck, and Jed Gurley. The Dragons really made their move in the third, scoring 13 runs, moving on to face Eagles Landing in the second round of the state playoffs.
PLAYOFFS
Eagles Landing Christian Academy Chargers, is the number three team, in Region 5-A. Last year when the Dragons met Eagles Landing in the semi-finals, the Chargers narrowly beat Jefferson 7-5 in the final game. This year, the teams are almost evenly matched statistic wise.
The doubleheader Wednesday, left both teams chomping at the bit. In the first game the Chargers took the win 11-5. However, Jefferson came back in the next game to win 9-2. The tie breaker was set for Thursday, but moved due to rain. The third game will be played Friday at 3 p.m. The winning team will move on to the State Quarter finals next week.
