Volleyball: East Jackson downs rival Jackson Co.

THE EAST Jackson volleyball team chalked up its seventh win of the year and beat one of its biggest rivals in the process.

The Eagles (7-15, 1-4) beat Jackson County 25-16, 21-25, 26-24. Jasmine Motes picked up a huge block and Urlissa Sheffield served up the winning point against the Panthers.

Leaders for the night were Madison Mealor (nine kills), Rebekah Poponi (seven kills), Haley Simmons (six kills) and Rosie Melendez (11 assists, 11 digs).

East Jackson also lost to Hart County 25-18, 24-26, 25-10.

The Eagles were coming off Thursday losses to rival Jefferson (25-6, 26-24) (click here for photos) and to Johnson (25-20, 25-19). East Jackson has five matches remaining.
