FOOTBALL: Bye week arrives at good time for WBHS

“We need to get healthy,” Wagner said. “We were playing our third line players at times last week. It’s time for us to get healthy and regroup a little bit.”

The Bulldogg coach already knew Sunday night that he was going to give his players off this Friday. The non-practice day will further allow injuries — both the nagging kind and more serious ones — to mend. The coaches will use the opportunity to divide up and scout future opponents.

At times in the game with Madison County, Winder-Barrow had five defensive backups on the field.

“Many times we take a wait and see attitude, but I’ve already told them we were giving them Friday off,” Wagner said Sunday night. The injuries we have limit us in what we have been able to do defensively. For us to be healthy in our last seven games is very critical. I believe in being physical but you also have to back off some at this point.”

The next game will be another challenge for the Bulldoggs as they will host Clarke Central Sept. 23.
