JACKSON County has reached the 12-win mark, passing last year’s total with a couple weeks still left in the regular season.
The Panthers (12-11) got there with a 25-17, 25-15 win over Salem Tuesday night. Jackson County also played Loganville the same evening and lost 14-25, 25-23, and 16-25.
Leading the Panthers were Jasmine Williams (12 attacks) Rachel Smith (nine attacks, five digs), Jaycee Caylor (seven aces), Kelcie Zimmer (five aces, 29 assists).
Prior to Tuesday night’s action, the team went 3-2 over the weekend in the East Hall Spikefest and claiming the bronze trophy.
The Panthers lost to West Hall (25-10, 25-17) and Hart County (20-25, 25-21, 9-15) but beat Tallulah Falls (25-19, 19-25, 15-11), Lumpkin County (25-17, 25-19) and Athens Christian (25-22, 25-20).
“We are looking forward to a big week and meeting our goals for the season,” coach Crystal Colley said. “I am proud of how hard the girls have worked. They continue to improve and fight for each match. This group has great chemistry and leadership on the court.”
Leaders from the Saturday tournament were Smith (18 kills), Caylor (14 kills, 14 digs, 13 aces), Zimmer (17 attacks, 46 assists, 10 aces) and Williams (14 digs).
Jackson County came into Saturday’s tournament after splitting a pair of matches with Newton County and Eastside Sept. 8. Jackson County beat Newton County (21-25, 25-15, 25-15) and lost to Eastside (25-20, 14-25, 23-25).
Statistical leaders for those two matches were Smith (14 kills, three blocks), Caylor (14 kills, three blocks), Williams (seven kills), Dorothy Maisonneuve (11 digs), Jasmine Momin (seven aces) and Zimmer (eight aces).
