Jefferson (10-17) rallied from an early 3-0 deficit to beat Elbert County 7-4 Wednesday and move to 7-2 in subregion play.
Pitcher Morgan McKinney relieved starter Savannah Snapp in the first inning and pitched the remaining 6 2/3 innings for the win. McKinney surrendered three hits and one earned run in relief while striking out seven.
Jordyn Whitfield led Jefferson at the plate, going 2-for-4 and blasting a solo home run in the fifth inning. She finished with two RBIs. McKinney went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. Other leading hitters were Lindsey Miles (1-for-2, RBI), Raegan Sandy (1-for-2), Snapp (1-for-3), Megan Faulker (1-for-3, RBI) and Ashley Boyd (1-for-2, RBI).
The game was tied at four until the sixth inning when Jefferson pushed three runs across the plate.
It was the second subregion win in as many days for Jefferson, which pounded Hart County 8-0 at home Tuesday in six innings.
Snapp and McKinney combined for a near-perfect game that day as both threw three innings with McKinney allowing the only baserunner via walk. McKinney also struck out five.
McKinney (1-for-3) and Cason Anderson (2-for-3) both drove home two scores to spark the team offensively. Other leading hitters were Whitfield (3-for-4, one RBI), Sandy (1-for-3, one RBI) and Faulkner (1-for-2, one RBI).
The Dragons pounded out 12 hits.Jefferson — which had dropped five of six games last week in a tournament at Buford — scored one run in the first and three more in the second in jumping on Hart County early. The Dragons then added a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth.
