Jackson County enjoyed another successful tournament run this past week, going 5-0 at the Veterans’ Memorial Tournament in Watkinsville and posting four shutouts.
The Panthers beat Stephens County (5-4), Tattnall County (9-0), George Walton Academy (6-0), South Effingham (4-0) and Toombs County (4-0).
Madison Whitmire homered three times in the tournament — giving her 11 for the year — and drove home seven runs. Haley Shinall picked up three wins and Kortnee Satterfield recorded two.
Against Stephens County, Whitmire homered and went 2-for-3, driving in two runs, and Satterfield went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Shinall picked up the win, throwing a two-hitter with four walks while striking out nine.
In the win over Tattnall County, Whitmire went deep twice and drove home four runs in a 2-for-3 day. Other leading hitters were Victoria Fontana (2-for-3, two RBIs, one run) and Satterfield (1-for-3, RBI, one run). Satterfield got the win, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out three.
Several different players sparked Jackson County in its win over George Walton — Alyssa Dasher (3-for-4, three RBIs), Jessica Baker (2-for-3, one run), Whitmire (1-for-3), Macey Latty (2-for-3, one run) and Victoria Woods (1-for-3, two RBIs). Shinall recorded the win, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out four.
Against South Effingham, Baker went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored while Mason Garland went 2-for-3 as well with two runs. Satterfield picked up the win, surrendering four hits and no walks while striking out five. She also helped herself out at the plate, going 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Shinall closed the tournament against Toombs County with another dominant pitching performance, throwing a two-hitter and allowing just two walks while striking out nine. Baker led Jackson County offensively, going 1-for-1 with two RBIs. Whitmire went 1-for-2 with an RBI.
