FOOTBALL: Doggs to visit Madison County

“Madison County is a good team, well coached and do a variety of things on offense,” Wagner said. “They keep you off balance when you are on defense.”

As far as defense goes for the Red Raiders, Wagner said this week’s opponent runs to the football well.

“It could be one of those close, back-and-forth battles,” the WBHS coach said. “It really depends on if we show up ready to play.”

Coming off a one-sided defeat to Flowery Branch, Wagner said he was not concerned about his team’s mental approach this week.

“We started putting our backups in with six minutes left last Friday,” Wagner said. “We were able to get some players on the field we wanted to allow playing time. It never helps when you give a team like Flowery Branch 16 points. We had some special teams miscues. However, that’s in the past and we have to put it out of our minds. If we were worried about the score then we would have left our starters in the entire time.”

The Bulldoggs had a solid day of practice Monday and were able to complete work on Labor Day before rains moved in the area.

“We hope the start we had to the week will translate into something positive on Friday night,” Wagner said. “We are looking for a strong effort from our players.”
