JEFFERSON’S volleyball team (7-2, 1-0) lost to Hebron Christian on the road Thursday at Hebron but rebounded with a win over Dacula the same night.
In the opener, Jefferson dropped an old-fashioned barn-burner with the host school, losing 27-29, 25-19, 21-25. Taylor Cramsey (18 kills) and Amanda Daniel (24 assists) led the Jefferson attack. Eden Starnes and Cassie Metcalf were stellar on defense with four and five digs respectively. Jefferson, however, struggled serving throughout the match, missing 14 serves in the three games.
“You can’t give a good team like Hebron that many free points,” Jefferson coach Mike Paul said.
In the second match, Jefferson hung on to beat Dacula 25-19, 25-23. Cramsey again had double figures in kills (11) while the rest of the Jefferson offense was very balanced. “Dacula was very scrappy and had a strong attack but the Lady Dragons refused to lose attitude which was the difference in the match,” Paul said.
Statistical leaders for both matches were Metcalf (one ace, 10 kills, six digs), Cramsey (one ace, 29 kills), Daniel (four kills, 43 assists, four digs), Starnes (two aces, eight kills, seven digs), Sarah Wood (six kills, five assists) and Savanna Holland (one ace, seven kills, one dig).
