Raiders poised for Monroe following last week’s victory

The Raiders rang up 44 points on Winder-Barrow Friday and exorcised some demons from their ill-fated season-opener against Rockdale County.

But players say there’s no room for complacency now with another region foe coming to town this weekend.

“We’ve got to put it on the shelf …. and come ready to play on Friday,” Raider cornerback Alex Young said.

With win no. 1 shelved, Madison County takes on new Region 8-AAAA foe Monroe Area (0-2) at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Danielsville.

The Raiders will hope for more of what they saw in their blowout of Winder-Barrow. The Raiders scored six touchdowns against the Bulldoggs, rebounding from a 14-point performance in week one in Conyers.

Head coach Randell Owens expects things to be a bit tougher this weekend, saying that Monroe Area is a “Jekyll and Hyde” team that’s always “kind of scary.”
