JEFFERSON couldn’t overtake perennial power Athens Academy Tuesday on the road, falling to the Spartans 25-22, 25-20.
Athens Academy won 50 matches a year ago.
The night wasn’t a total loss, however, for the Dragons (6-1, 1-0) as they beat Hart County 25-21, 25-19. Hart County hosted both of the matches.
Jefferson began its sub-area slate five days earlier, beating Lakeview Academy 25-16, 25-14 Thursday on the road. Leaders for the Dragons were Cassie Metcalf (three aces, three kills), Amanda Daniel (one ace, one kill, 10 assists), Taylor Cramsey (four aces, six kills), Eden Starnes (one ace, three kills), Sarah Wood (one ace, two assists) and Savanna Holland (one ace, five hills).
In the second match of the evening, Jefferson beat Prince Avenue 25-3, 24-26, 25-13 in non sub-area action. Leading the Dragons to the win were Metcalf (one ace, four kills), Daniel (10 aces, one kill, 18 assists), Cramsey (11 kills, two blocks), Starnes (three aces, two kills, one block), Wood (five kills, two assists), Holland (four aces, five kills, two blocks), Hannah Murphy (one kill, one assist) and Amanda Flowers (one ace).
