Lady Leopards fall to third-ranked team

After a standout tournament last weekend to open the season for the Banks County High School softball team, the Lady Leopards hosted Union County, the number 3-ranked team in Class AA.

In the sub-region opener for 2011, Union County would defeat BCHS 10-1.

In the first inning, the Lady Leopards set down Union County in order. BCHS then came to bat and scored one run but left the bases loaded. That would prove to be the best scoring opportunity of the contest for the Lady Leopards.

Union County scored four runs in the both the second and fourth innings to take control of the game.

“We have to get better at the small things that win ballgames,” said BCHS coach Dean Goodwin. “ You cannot give good teams more than three outs in an inning.

We just failed to execute on both sides today. We will get back to work at practice.”

Offensively for the Lady Leopards, Madison Franklin was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. McKenna Rylee, Madison Porter and Hailey Warner all added a hit.

Warner had the lone RBI for the Lady Leopards.

Jordan Rogers pitched 3.1 innings for the Lady Leopards and Savannah Denton pitched 2.2 innings.
