Banks County Middle School athletic teams will compete in a new league beginning with the 2011-2012 school year.
"As far as our middle school athletic program goes, we are extremely excited to be entering into a new athletic league," said BCMS athletic director Steven Shedd.
The new league is called the "Northeast Georgia Athletic League.”
Schools in the league will include Banks County, Jefferson, East Jackson, West Jackson, and King's Bridge.
The sports currently sanctioned in the league this school year are basketball, cross country, softball, football, golf and track. One benefit of the new league is that it will cut down on travel and will also setup natural rivalries between the league schools as they are all located relatively close to one another.
The fall sports teams will be working hard to prepare for their seasons very soon and expect a lot of great success from the football, softball, cross country and cheerleading teams, said Shedd.
"We have great coaches and student athletes at our middle school that give 100 percent of their time and effort,” the BCMS athletic director said. “We hope that all of our Leopard fans in the community will come out to show their support for all our middle school sports teams throughout the school year.”
