BASEBALL: Diamond Doggs venture to Mississippi

“It allows us to get away from home and work on a lot of things,” Smith said. “It’s good for all involved. We play baseball all day for several days. It’s a chance to play against top competition and see where you are and see what needs to be done down the road in terms of getting better.”

WBHS players were able to continue working for 2012. After another trip to the state playoffs, the Diamond Doggs have become one of the top programs in Northeast Georgia on a yearly basis.

“Summer is a time where you work on things for the future,” Smith said recently. “You try to see who can step in and help you next season and you also look to get your returning players more work. You can never have enough times at the plate or get your pitchers enough work. We take what we do during the summer serious although we also try to have some fun with it. The trip to Mississippi was good for the program.”
