Both Madison County boys’ and girls’ soccer players recently received some post-season honors.
On the boys’ side, Ian Webster and Forrest Gaskin were voted second-team all-region.
Webster scored 14 goals for the Raiders this season and was the team offensive MVP. Meanwhile, Gaskin had nine goals and 11 assists.
Also, Ben Larkins, Joey Sandres and Detrick Yamasato were voted honorable mention for the region. Sandres had nine goals and eight assists, Larkins was the team’s defensive MVP and Yamasato had three goals coming forward from the back.
On the girls’ side, Renee` Ellisor, a three-year varsity starter and leading scorer for the 2011 MCHS girls soccer team, received second-team All-Region 8-AAAA honor. This is an honor nominated by her high school coach and voted on by the coaches of Region 8-AAAA.
“Renee` is a part of a very elite group of girl athletes in region 8-AAAA. Most all of the girls nominated to first and second team are pursuing a soccer career in college,” coaches said of the team’s offensive MVP. “She is a hard-nosed player and hustles on every play! Her knowledge of the game is a direct reflection in ball control and placement.”
Ellisor, a center midfielder who had eight goals and one assist in 2011, received honorable mention in 2010 for Region 8-AAAA. She plays for Athens United Soccer Association and participated in its College Experience Program. She will attend Brenau University on a soccer scholarship next year.
