Scrimmage ahead Friday

Spring practice is winding down this week for the Banks County football program as the Leopards get ready for the start of summer training in a few weeks.

Friday night, the Leopards cap the spring practice session with a scrimmage for the middle school and high school teams.

The BCMS players start at 6:30 p.m. with the varsity scheduled for 7:15 p.m.

Fans are welcome to patron Sonic before or after the game as the restaurant is helping promote the Leopards with a scrimmage night from 5-9 p.m.

Entrance fee to the games will be in the way of a monetary donation, or by one of the following items per person, being accepted at the gate: packs of DVD-R discs for filming the games, bottles of liquid laundry detergent for cleaning the uniforms, boxed packs of Lance crackers for the players after the games, case of bottled water or a bag of hard candy (no meltables or gum).

Friday night’s scrimmage will be the tip of the iceberg for what the gridiron Leopards will bring to the field in later summer scrimmages and in the fall.

I am so tired of the blame game that Banks County is so famous for. Mr. Wheaton is NOT the only person who has a say in ANY school hire. The BOE members as well as Mr. Erwin also have to approve.
Way to go Banks Dad for your school support. And we wonder why our kids blame others for their actions!

Friday nights are going to get a new look.
The offense that was on display was refreshing!
A half back option pass. YES!!!! Pass & run plays almost equal.
Focus equals execution, reps will make it second nature, a lot to learn. Good Luck Boys.
The defense was swarming & motivated.
Practice looks a whole lot diffrent as well focused, upbeat, fundamentals & a whole new playbook. Not to mention full pads in May. Now a continued solid summer program.
Going to be an interesting season a very young team with 66 on the roster and only 14 seniors. New coaches style of play will have a bunch of underclassmen seeing playing time.
.500 ball this year would be nice but the next 2 or 3 years are going to be fun to watch.
BC Leopards on going on the PROWL. You heard it here first! If you don't believe (yet) just wait & see.
Kudos to Coach Jones & the staff. Keep up the good work. You not only have a team to coach but a community to bring along as well.
Tradition is not a strong feeling, vibe or way of life here YET.

Mr. Banks Dad - your opinion doesn't mean you are "telling it like it is" Don't be so ignorant! WHo knows what the upcoming season will hold. Everyone thought Jefferson was going to run away with the region again last year while they had their "Hall of Fame Coach" and all those seniors and experienced players from the last 2 years. Didn't happen did it. I know of another coach that was put down before he was head coach of his first game and his first few years turned ouot pretty good - of course this was on a different level - ever heard of Mark Richt.
Banks Dad - if you are so unhappy with the coach - Mr. Wheaton, the BOE, etc... do something constructive to fix it and stop whining.
Or you could just take your little boy and your ball and go home

Don't think everyone thought that Jefferson was going to win the region. What would BC have done if they played North Hall, Hart County, Elbert County, North Oconee, Jefferson, Jackson County and Oglethrope County? They did lose to East Jackson and would be 1-7 against the rest!

That's why they play the games. Keep up with each game and what's happening and you might not make such a statement. THis is the same debate all the Jefferson people had about BC winning so many games last year even though it was the exact same teams they beat the year bfore.

I wish Banks County the best. The best athletic programs are cross county and wrestling. I know that girls softball and tennis have made some strides but football won last year because they were in a weak sub region. Jefferson went 22-2 in two years because they were in a weak region. The only competition they had was North Oconee and East Jackson. Jefferson won in the first round of the playoffs but lost to Lovett one year and Buford the next. Banks was demolished in by Calhoun in their only playoff game. When you don't play tough competion during the regualar season you can't make a deep playoff run.

There may have been other head coaching candidates out there that many people think would have been a better choice for the BC program, but for reasons unknown to the public, they were not selected. It doesn't matter who the BOE hired, there is always someone who will not be happy. There is nothing we can do at this point except support the coach and the football program he was hired to run. Bad mouthing him, his coaches and his program that is just getting started is only going to hurt the program, not help it. Please everyone, give him a chance. I want what is best for the players and being a supportive parent, regardless of who the coach is, is the best way to do it. See you all on Friday nights cheering our boys on to victory!

Banks Dad needs to change his name to "Dad" or "Jefferson/Commerce Dad". If its that bad for you please go somewhere else!!!!! Your kid is probably what 3rd string anyway.

Oh there is something I can do and that is pull my son out of BCHS. He will be at Jefferson next school year. Already in the process of moving.

Congrats "Banks Dad" you made a choice that I hope works for you. I do have a question, even though Jefferson has a Hall of Fame coach - they did have a miserable year last year, how are you going to feel about the decision you made at teh end of the season if (God Forbid) JHS has another season like last year? Are you going to lead the chant to get rid of the Hall of Fame coach? Especially if by some miracle BCHS has a .500 season. I wish your son Good Luck and a successful future, I would only suggest that he focus on academics and not look to make all his decisions on a high school sports team record. High School is only 4 years and only a very small % make it to college. Now more will go to college with an opportunity but get a real count of how many "make it" and don't come home in the first year.
