Eagles Send One To State

East Jackson’s Nick Fulks took top honors as the region champ in the shot put and in the discus at the 8AA boys’ region meet at Jefferson over the weekend.

Fulks will be the lone Eagle heading to state competition, as East Jackson placed fifth overall with 37 points. The Eagles trailed region champ North Oconee (154.5), Elbert County (153), Oglethorpe County (68) and Hart County (66.5) while beating out East Hall (33), Jefferson (29), Dawson County (28.5), Jackson County (21.5), Rabun County (20), Fannin County (5) and Banks County (4).

The boys’ state track meet will be held Saturday at Jefferson High School.

Other placers included Caleb Bailey, third, shot put and Cale Pirtle, third, 1600 meters, fourth, 800 meters.

“You would always love to do better, however I am proud of our guys who competed well,” said coach Steve Collins.

Up next for East Jackson is the girls’ region track meet, set for Saturday-Monday at EJCHS.
