It was a mixed bag of results for East Jackson’s track and field teams last week, as both teams picked up wins over Banks County, while the girls bested Dawson County and the boys topped Riverside. But both teams fell short in the Jefferson Relays, where the boys finished seventh and the girls placed eighth.
Up next for East Jackson are the 8-AA region meets. The boys will be in action starting Saturday and running through Monday at Jefferson. The girls’ meet is scheduled for April 30-May 2 at East Jackson.
On April 12, East Jackson hosted Banks County and Riverside. Both teams came away with victories, as the boys scored 93 points to Riverside’s 56 and Banks County’s 14. The girls outscored Banks County to win 90-27.
Winners on the day for the Eagles included Nick Fulks in the shot put, Chas Malcolm in the long jump, Ronnie Slizowski in the pole vault, Cale Pirtle in the 800 meters, Cody Alford in the 100-meter hurdles, Ricky Hall in the 200 meters and Montel Reynolds in the 300-meter hurdles.
For the Lady Eagles, Santana Davis took top honors in the shot put, Amanda Murphy won in the long jump and the 100-meter hurdles, Cora McDowell won in the triple jump, Jessica Harper took top honors in the high jump and the 200 meters, Brooklyn Watkins won in the pole vault, Courtney McDowell won in the 1600 and 3200, Mariah Bair won in the 100 meters and Lauren Sanders won in the 300-meter hurdles.
On Thursday, East Jackson hosted Dawson County. The Lady Eagles topped the Lady Tigers 72-64, while the Eagles fell 72-64.
Winners for the girls included Davis in the shot put, Harper in the high jump, Watkins in the pole vault, Alyssa Biggs in the 400 meters, Murphy in the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles and Sherri Blalock in the 800 meters.
For the boys, winners included Caleb Bailey in the shot put, Fulks in the discus, Malcolm in the triple jump, Pirtle in the 1600 meters and 800 meters, Hall in the 100 meters and Reynolds in the 300-meter hurdles.
Up next was a trip to Jefferson for the Jefferson Relays Saturday. The boys finished seventh out of eight teams, while the girls finished eighth out of eight teams.
The boys scored 37 points, trailing winner Elbert county (133), Lovett (107.5), Athens Academy (66), North Oconee (67.5), Jefferson (66.6), Hart County (53.3), while beating out Rabun County (29)
Placers for the boys included Reynolds, seventh, 110 meters and sixth, 300-meter hurdles; Alford, eighth, 110 meters; Alex Standridge, seventh, high jump; Steve Barrow, seventh, triple jump; Lance Haley, fourth, shot put; and Fulks, fifth, shot put and second, discus.
The Eagles also placed fourth in the 1600 sprint medley, and seventh in the distance medley.
The girls scored 36 points, trailing Jefferson (124), Hart County (79), Lovett (72), Athens Academy (69.5), North Oconee (63), Rabun County (55.5) and Elbert County (36).
Placers for the girls included Sanders, sixth, 100-meter hurdles and seventh, 300-meter hurdles; Harper, third, high jump; Watkins, second, pole vault; McDowell, eighth, triple jump, Davis, third, shot put, Malika DuBose, sixth, shot put and sixth, discus; and Savannah Molina, fifth, discus.
East Jackson was scheduled to travel to Carnesville to face Franklin County on Tuesday. Results were unavailable at press time.
