Madison County’s diamond Red Raiders suffered a hard loss to Winder-Barrow Monday night at home. The Red Raiders were offed by the Bulldoggs, 20-1 in a three inning game.
Haden Martin landed the sole run for Madison County with a home run.
Madison County managed three hits from 11 batters, while Winder put 13 hits into play. The Bulldoggs scored 14 runs in the third and final inning.
Madison County now looks to shake off Monday’s performance as the team enters the final stretch of the regular season. The Red Raiders have to win the remaining games for a chance to advance into the region playoffs at the end of the season.
Wednesday, the Red Raiders hosted Habersham Central, in what was originally scheduled to be the team’s senior recognition night. The senior night was changed to next Monday, April 18, as Madison County takes on Clarke Central. Monday’s opening pitch is 5:55 p.m. at Red Raider field. Results from Wednesday's game were unavailable at press time.
Finishing out the regular season, Madison County (11-6, 3-4) faces Heritage tomorrow (Friday) on the road. Opening pitch is set for 5:55 p.m. The Red Raiders then return home for Monday’s Clarke Central game before ending the regular season on the road at Flowery Branch, April 20.
Last week, the boys defeated Salem after six innings, 15-5 in a home match-up with the cross region opponent.
Madison County would score in bunches to prevail. The Red Raiders scored seven runs int eh first inning and secured the win with eight runs in the sixth inning. From the plate, Madison County recorded 15 hits from the lineup, with Dylan Chandler leading the way, 4-for-4, with three doubles and two RBIs. Steven Tiller went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Alex Jordan was 2-for-3.
Jordan earned his first win in relief, pitching effectively for three and two-third innings, striking out two and allowing one run and one hit.
Prior to the stomp over Salem, Madison County faced Apalachee on the road.
Matt Savage earned the win, his fifth, from the mound, pitching just over five innings to strikeout two batters, walking three, and giving up one earned run off four hits.
The Red Raiders were led at the plate by Jordan Thomas, two hits and five RBIs, and Kyle Dean, two hits and one RBI, while Bo Hardman sent one sailing for a three-run homer. Steven Tiller recorded two hits. Martin, Zach Escoe and Daniel Townsend each recorded a hit.
Madison County earned the win 11-1 over Apalachee.
Madison County had gotten off to a good start, but ended up dropping a close 6-4 game to Flowery Branch April 4.
The Red Raiders were leading 4-1 after the third inning, but Flowery Branch started a rally in the fifth and had tied Madison, 4-4, by the sixth. The Falcons slipped past in the final inning with two runs.
Aaron Benner started on the mound, pitching five innings for three strikeouts, two walks, allowing four runs, two earned off three hits before being relieved by Brock Turner. Turner pitched two innings, fanning four batters, walking two, allowing two unearned runs off two hits.
Chandler led at the plate, batting 2-for-3 for two RBIs. Escoe went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Tiller, Martin and Dean each recorded a hit.
