THE seniors were honored Thursday, but a freshman provided the fireworks.
Jackson County’s Katie Phillips turned out a stellar four-goal performance in the Lady Panther soccer team’s 4-2 victory at home in their regular season finale.
Jackson County (4-6, 4-2), celebrating senior night, had already qualified for the region playoffs, but the victory locked down a no. 3 seed for the Lady Panthers, who will play Union County (11-1) April 12 in the first round of the 8-AA playoffs.
“The team played great offensively and defensively and we are looking forward to playing Union County on April 12,” coach Kim Myers said.
Myers pointed to the efforts of her senior class, who will get to play at least one more time now that Jackson County has qualified for the Region 8-AA post season.
“I would like to thank Naly Thao and Courtney Kitchens for the four years they have been with the program,” she said.
