JEFFERSON golfer Hanna Chapman enjoyed a career round Thursday, and the Lady Dragons enjoyed a comfortable victory over rival Commerce.
Chapman fired a 39 to lead Jefferson to an 88-106 victory over the Lady Tigers at Double Oaks Golf Club. Kara Perry added a 49.
This was Jefferson’s second win against an intra-county foe in as many days. The Lady Dragons beat Jackson County 98-120 a day earlier, led by Chapman’s 44. Paige Pate also scored, shooting a 45.
Jefferson returns to the action April 12 against East Jackson at Tradition of Braselton Golf Club.
•Jefferson golfers down JCCHS, CHS: The Jefferson boys’ golf team went two-for-two in rivalry matches in consecutive days before taking a hiatus for spring break, beating Jackson County and Commerce.
Led by Nick Stowe’s 43, Jefferson bested Jackson County 179-184 last Wednesday at Traditions Golf Course.
Patrick Hilton added a 44, Josh Flowers followed with a 45 and Isaac Kelly and Andrew Thompson each rounded out the scoring by shooting 47.
Jefferson then handled Commerce 171-199 the next day at Double Oaks Golf Club.
Flowers led the Dragons with a round of 40. Hilton (42), Price (44) and Kelly (45) also scored.
Jefferson returns to the action April 12 against East Jackson at Tradition of Braselton Golf Club.
•Dragons win Bo James Invitational Saturday: The Jefferson boys’ track team capped the first two-thirds of its season with a win at the inaugural Bo James Invitational meet at Rabun County Saturday.
The boys won 12 of 16 events and accumulated 154 points in the process to finish ahead of second-place Habersham Central (91) and third-place Rabun County (70).
“I was very pleased with the effort and commitment displayed by this group of young men,” coach Tim Corbett said. “While many fellow students in the area got started with spring break, these guys put forth a great collective effort and got better.”
Top finishers on the track for the Dragons included Judson Stewart (100 meters, (11.60 seconds, season record), Josh Watkins (200 meters, 24.18, season record; 400 meters, 53.52, season record), Trae Timmerman (800 meters, 2:15.00), Kyle Kashuba (1,600 meters, 5:07; 3,200 meters, 11:05), Derrick Perkins (110-meter high hurdles, 15.55 seconds; 300-meter hurdles, 44.24 seconds), the 4 x 100 meter “A” relay team of Carson Newman, Perkins, Watkins and Stewart and the 4 x 400 meter “B” relay team of Watkins, Pate Sheppard, Stewart and Josh Reid.
In the field events, James Howard took top honors in the Pole Vault (12-06, season record), and Newman won the discus (118’ 8”).
Other season records set included Jake Marlowe in the 3,200 meters (third, 11:44.00), Newman in the 100 meters (third, 12.03), Maurice Pattman in the 400 meters (second, 55.91 seconds) and Stewart in the 200 meters (second, 24.23).
The meet was a make-up from the original March 26 date that was rained out. The event is named for the late coach Bo James, who spent most of his coaching career at Rabun County and a brief time at Jefferson High School.
Following spring break, the Dragons return to action against Chestatee and East Hall Tuesday.
The Dragons then host the 47th Jefferson Relays April 16 with over 20 schools competing.
