Now come the volleys with two Barrow County squads.
Madison County’s guys’ and girls’ squads are both 11-2 overall. They will soon face Apalachee and Winder-Barrow after returning from this week’s spring break.
On Monday, the girls will play at Apalachee High School, while the boys face the Wildcats at the YMCA courts. Matches are set for 4 p.m.
On Tuesday, April 5, the Red Raider netters return home, hosting Winder-Barrow. In the final home match of the regular season, Madison County will honor the senior netters with the annual senior/alumni night. Match times begin at 4:30 p.m.
FLOWERY BRANCH
Madison County’s netters met defeat last Tuesday, with both girls and boys falling to Flowery Branch. But the teams bounced back with wins over Habersham Central Thursday.
The teams were scheduled to play North Oconee last Friday at home. Results from those matches were unavailable at press time.
In only the second defeat for the Red Raiders, the netter boys fell to Flowery Branch last week, 3-2.
“We still have some work to do to improve and reach our goals this season,” said Strickland. “We have good records at all the other positions, but have struggled some at each position at key times this season. We have the fundamentals and talent, but need to work on the mental aspect during match play and realize that every position must take care of business on their courts.”
For the Lady Red Raiders, the number one doubles team of Kaitlyn Hale and Adrienne Fitzpatrick secured the only win for the team, 6-7, 6-3, 6-2.
“With the girls, we knew from our last encounter with Flowery Branch that we had to be on top of our game when we met again — we saw some improvement,” Strickland said. “Hale/Fitzpatrick seemed to catch fire and played with a new found desire in the final sets. Jeannie Bowen played her opponent much tougher this time around, losing both sets by just one break of serve.”
HABERSHAM CENTRAL
On Thursday, Madison County defeated Habersham. The Lady Red Raiders won 3-2 over Habersham in extremely cold and windy conditions.
The Red Raiders only dropped one game in 10 sets for a clean sweep over Habersham, 5-0.
